Jianhu Shifu
Jianhu Shifu took monastic vows in 1994 under Grand Master Wei Chueh, founder of Chung Tai Chan Monastery. He later served as the Dean of Chung Tai Buddhist Institute. Over the past two decades, Jianhu Shifu has dedicated himself to Chan (Chinese Zen) and Dharma teachings, founding and serving as the abbot at several Chan centers in the US, including Buddha Gate Monastery (San Francisco), Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale (Silicon Valley), and Buddha Jewel Monastery (Seattle). Jianhu Shifu has led Chan-7 retreats (7-day intensive meditation) and weekend meditation programs, and taught Buddhism courses at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. His teachings have also reached audiences across continents through public lectures, university seminars, and interfaith dialogues.
Before ordination, Jianhu Shifu received B.S. in Computer Science & Engineering from Caltech, and a Ph.D. in Artificial Neural Networks from UCSD.
Prajna Dharma Foundation, 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 2022 to support Jianhu Shifu’s personal cultivation and Dharma teachings in the US and across the globe. In 2024, Shifu founded the Prajna Forest Monastery, nestled in the serene hills of Santa Cruz mountains, for immersive meditation retreats and online teachings.
